Massage Therapy Offerings

While all massage therapy approaches can be helpful when used properly, the clinical massage therapist has very specific skills for a variety of physical dysfunctions. At the Massage Therapy & Wellness Center, our clinical massage therapists, Phyllis Baker and Patsi Gately are members of and are certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). Their wide range of skills and experiences allow them to tailor treatment approaches to your particular concerns. When injury is involved, they work co-operatively with you, your physician, physical therapist, chiropractor and acupuncturist to assist you in your recovery.

Benefits of Clinical Massage Therapy

While clinical massage therapy is not a cure-all, there are many conditions that arise in the musculoskeletal system that can be helped by this approach, including:

  • Any chronic muscle or joint pain.
  • A known condition of referred pain, such as, "When my neck gets tense, I get a headache."
  • Any recurring symptoms that seem to accompany or are precipitated by muscle tightness.
  • Tight muscles that are limiting the mobility of a joint.
  • Chronically fatigued muscles.
  • Low energy level, especially when accompanied by muscle aches and pains.
  • A recent pain that generates pain or dysfunction in areas not seemingly involved in the injury.
  • Muscle pain that recurs in an area with no apparent new cause.
  • A tendency for pain to spread to other muscles whenever a simple strain or injury occurs.

Your massage therapist will work closely with you to monitor your progress and make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals when indicated.
